In the exhibition ‘The Teaching is in the Making’: Re(stor)ied Memories of Anishnabeg, Anishnaabekwe artists Celeste Pedri-Spade and Leanna Marshall ask us to bridge the gap of knowledge and examine and learn Anishnabeg histories through visual mediums. Using their family archive and oral stories as source material, both artists learn and impart knowledge through the creation of images, jingle dresses and beaded works. For the artists, the exhibition is a gathering of material objects that are “about restoring and re-story-ing specific familial memories that are integral to Anishnabeg history, identity, and continued survivance.”
