On Becoming: Recent Acquisitions to the University of Alberta Museums Art Collection (2024)

Since the founding of the University of Alberta, collecting art has been an integral facet of campus life. From whalebone carvings to digital photography, the University of Alberta Museums Art Collection contains an impressive collection of prints, paintings and sculptures. The Art Collection has consistently sought to address the diversity of art making practices taught and researched by the university community. 

On Becoming showcases recent acquisitions and the changing directions of collecting at the University of Alberta Museums Art Collection. Focused on emerging and Indigenous voices, the exhibition recognizes the distinctive nature of collecting art through time and features the work of artists who are both established and new to the University of Alberta Museums.
